  • We study what the best Farmers do - How you compound knowledge

The best Farmers we know are the ones that compound knowledge; they are constantly seeking better ways to do things, to solve the problems that arise so they don’t become problems anymore. Then they can move on to the next one.

This is a simple way I build my knowledge. The Wool Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) ended last week at 1989 cents/kg. I lock the 1989 figure in my head, and now I know. It will change next week, but it’s a great example of compounding your knowledge. Your next conversation with a Woolgrower will be about how good it is that the indicator is hovering around 2000 cents. He or she may not have even known. It’s a little, nearly meaningless example, but allow 20 or 30 deeper ones in each day, and you are away.

  • Our latest writings

  • It’s an interesting succession scenario that the Fox family is going through. Farmers should take note of what not to. We elaborate.

  • If you're starting out in business, you need to follow Scott McDouall’s lead. He started identifying a group of potential clients he wants to work with. This is what he did next.....

  • What a great Crop Lucerne is. What other products act like lucerne and keep producing at minimal cost?

  • We have this innate ability to keep solving problems in Ag to keep above the margin line. But some industries and sectors might not survive the margin crunch. We name those industries.

  • In the Scott McDouall podcast, he talks about coaching his clients to always think that everything is perfect. This changes their mindset, and we explain why.

  • Scenario playing is a great thing to do. What if you went back to a clean slate and redesigned your business all over again? How would it look?

  • Guest writer Caleb Schwartz wrote about a Dinosaur tourism bringing people into the outback.

  • We review a very exciting business model.

  • Selling the Farm, and the accountant tells you you have a CGT bill you can’t jump over - Move to New Zealand, gain residency, and you don’t pay the CGT. Radical? Maybe.

  • Guest columnist Michael Bagshaw assesses the RIC loans and gives his opinion on the process and outcomes.

  • Have a great Wednesday, and remember to subscribe to compound your knowledge.
