  • Survey - There was a survey sent out around 9 am EST on Friday. If you get time, it would be great if you could spend a minute filling it out. Thank you in advance.

  • First-gen Farmers are less privy to the past - We wrote a story about a topic that a Sheep Farmer bought up at LambEx. He said this: If we want the Sheep industry to stay relevant, we need to take the hard out of hard work". After we put out the story, one first-gen Sheep Farmer wrote in and said this: "When we started, we could see Farmers doing things the hard way, and we were determined to make life easier for ourselves and the Sheep by improving all the shitty jobs and the hard work things". That's been our focus, and now working Sheep is a pleasure. This got me thinking about first-gen Farmers; they are less privy to the past and therefore have much less baggage to carry. The best Farmers will seek out people who think differently about things. The first-gen Farmers are worth tapping into for that very reason.

  • Our latest writings:

  • It’s not very often a reply comes in that stops us in our tracks. One Farmer who got burnt out in the Skipton fires told his story. What stopped us in our tracks was his attitude. Amazing.

  • We have put a case forward for a new role in Agriculture. It’s a Machinery Fleet Manager. It’s where a Farmer gets someone in to help them manage the millions of dollars worth of Machinery they own. We outline what the role might look like.

  • They are capping and piping bores in Queensland, and it means that Livestock and Feral Animals have to be managed differently from the traditional bore drain system. We elaborate.

  • The opposite to evidence-based decision making is decision-based evidence making. The latter is how some Farmers make decisions, and it's a bit like guessing, as one expert outlines.

  • We wrote about Tassie and how their new footy side can take a leaf out of how Tassie has advanced so much in the Ag space over the last 2 decades. We got a couple of good replies to this story.

  • We are hearing that some of the “Southern” Cropping systems introduced into the Northern Territory are failing.

  • Our guest writer Vic Hoffmann Dohle went to the Fodder industry body (AFIA) 30-year dinner last week, and the take-home was that we need to start laughing again. Good story this.

  • We did some Machinery value-to-income ratios and where we needed to be sitting for our Machinery fleet to be at its most efficient as far as use is concerned.

  • Shane Ruyg from Farm Tender gave us a rundown on where the Used Machinery market is at. His takeaway: it’s at pre-COVID levels.

  • We had a great reply from a first generation Farmer and it got me thinking how we can learn a lot from these first gen Farmers becuase they are not privy to the past. See above.

  • Our guest columnist Bec Lindert gives us an update on how and why she is building her AI brain. It’s fascinating and futurist stuff.

  • Have a great Saturday, and subscribe to know more than next door.
