The living-in-town dilemma - We wrote a story about the growing trend of Farming families uprooting from Farm living and moving to town. It affects the next generation of Farm/Ag kids coming through. This is what one Farmer said: ‘Hi Dwain. I grew up as a town cockies son, and now my children have grown up the other way around as we have lived on the Farm. Totally agree with the disconnect for the whole family outside of dad, about what is going on when living as townies. I had jobs like paper boy and chemist boy, and my kids had jobs mowing lawns around the Farm yard, washing Tractors, moving and feeding Sheep, etc. To move to town is to lose connection with your children as to how a Farm runs. The real keen ones might get some exposure, but the others next to none. We are losing a generation with true connection to the Land’. Do you reckon this might be a hidden dilemma for the Farming industry?
